Today we are going to take the world’s slowest train - the Glacier Express! From St. Mortiz (St. Mortiz) to Zermatt (Zermatt), it is the most classic trip in Switzerland! Because we bought a Swiss Travel Pass, the tickets were free, and we only needed to pay a reservation fee (there is a reservation fee for the Glacier train, which is different in low and peak seasons. This time we went in June, 49 CHF per person), and the whole journey took about 8 hours. , I heard that the scenery along the road is very beautiful, I’m looking forward to it~🤩

The car departs from St. Mortiz at 08:51 in the morning and arrives at Zermatt at 17:10 in the afternoon. The whole journey takes 8 hours, which is very long~

There are three types of carriages on the Glacier Train: Excellence Class, 1st Class, and 2nd Class. There is only one carriage per class class with a total of 20 seats. There is also a special reception counter when you get on the train! For the other two carriages, just get on the train by yourself🤣 (That day, the special class cabin was fully booked by a large group of Japanese grandparents, what a savage group~)

You can book online 90 days before departure. Be sure to choose a window seat in advance. If you use Swiss Travel Pass, you can book a seat in either first class (1st Class) or second class (2nd Class). First class seats are in a 2-1 configuration (two people sitting opposite each other or four people sitting opposite each other); second class (2nd Class) is a 2-2 configuration (both four people sitting opposite each other). If there are two people, I highly recommend choosing to sit opposite each other in first class so that you don’t have to share a table with others. However, we booked it too late and there are no seats in first class, so if you are sure, book a seat first Come on! (Even if you haven’t bought a Swiss Travel Pass, you can still make a reservation first, as long as you show it during the on-site ticket inspection on the day)

In the Excellence Class cabin, there are two seats with a table and a window seat. Each seat comes with an iPad, which is really high-end🤣

Get on the train~2nd Class compartment

There are racks for luggage outside the carriage.

I really don’t understand his logic about this seat number. There are experts on the Internet who have compiled information about seat selection. It’s so powerful!! We didn’t have much choice left. We ended up with No. 14 & 16, but we happened to see famous seats on this side. Landwasser Viaduct, Lucky

Wow ~ the car is so beautiful insideSuper clean, the seats are in a 2-2 configuration, and the windows are really large floor-to-ceiling windows from top to bottom. It seems that no one takes the entire eight-hour journey from Zermatt to Kuala Lumpur. This section of Chur, we are the only ones in this carriage, but it will be full later

There are small trash cans and cup holders hidden next to the table. Headphones, menus, and brochures introducing the scenery along the way are also provided.

There is a charging cable next to the seat. If you want to listen to the tour guide, just plug the earphones next to it and listen to the tour guide along the way.

The toilet is about the same size as in Taiwan, which is relatively small in Switzerland, but it is also very clean.

Each table has a menu. We already made a pre-selection when we made a reservation online, but I suggest that you can make a selection after getting on the bus, because the pre-selection and on-site selection are actually the same. You can decide based on the situation on site, like us It was very hot and tired after the ride. In fact, I couldn’t eat at all, and the meal was just mediocre😳

As soon as we got on the bus, the waiter came and asked us if we wanted to order coffee. Naively, we thought it was free, but it turned out that we had to pay for kaffee (5.5 CHF) and Cappucino (6 CHF), which were okay, but nothing special.

There is also Wi-Fi in the car. The speed is quite fast and stable. It will also tell you which attractions you have reached now.

Let’s set off!! The scenery along the way is really beautiful, and the weather is very good, but the sun is really too big, and the windows are large floor-to-ceiling windows. The car windows are completely transparent and have no shading effect. There was no sunshade curtain, so it started to get very hot at noon. Plus, the entire carriage was full of people, and the air-conditioning was not strong. It was actually a bit stuffy, and I ended up getting a little motion sick. Also, be sure to wear sunglasses!! The sun is really not an exaggeration. It’s so big that it can cause sunburn! It’s so dazzling~ Remember to wear sunscreen

From St. Moritz to Chur, you will pass the Landwasser Viaduct. The passing time is very short. Be sure to remember to see this most classic stone bridge attraction during this section. Don’t miss it. What a pity~

Meals will start serving at 12 noon, and the waiters will start laying out tablecloths and setting plates at about 11 o'clock... The three-course meal (49CHF) we pre-selected online includes salad, main meal, and dessert (on the car) There is a charge for water, so be sure to bring it with you. You will be very thirsty if you are exposed to the sun.)

The salad is just an ordinary egg salad. The vegetables are very fresh, quite refreshing and delicious (have you seen how much sun is shining outside? The salad is almost becoming a warm salad😂)

Now for the main meal, the way they serve the meal is very special. The plates will be placed on the table first, and each waiter will bring a whole pot of different ingredients and add them to your plate, making it a complete meal. Wonderful, and the car is actually quite shaking, so the waiter may spill it, so be careful to protect your clothes 😂

After three waiters worked hard and unsteadily to distribute the food, the main meal was finally put together! It seems that I won’t comment 😂 Today’s main meal is stewed chicken, butter-stewed carrots and rice. It’s actually super delicious and tastes okay (I thought it was curry but it’s not). It’s really okay. It’s nothing. special

Dessert after the meal, caramel mousse cake, super sweet! One person simply can’t finish a whole cake😵‍💫I seriously recommend that you don’t pre-select meals online, just choose the meal on the spot according to the actual situation, otherwise you will be like us and insist on eating even though you can’t eat, and you can’t eat dessert. There is no way to take it away. The point is that these three dishes cost 49 CHF (approximately NT$1,750) per person, which is very expensive! Personally, I think the CP value is very low, so it’s better to prepare your own meals😆

Because the car is very stuffy, I really like to stay at the back of the car. There are windows to the outside, so it’s much more comfortable to blow in the wind~

Along the way, there are small rivers, lakes, waterfalls, plains, rolling mountains and rivers, lovely villages in the mountains...the scenery is really varied.

I like seeing the locomotive like this the most. A little red among the greenery is so beautiful~

There will be a wind break during the entire drive (I forgot where), it will take about 5-10 minutes, and everyone will get off the car to take photos and stretch their muscles XD

When we finally arrived at the finish line of Zermatt, the scenery outside the window gradually turned into the scenery of the canyon. Foreigners stood up to take pictures and talked about it, but in our hearts we just wanted to say, "Is there anything special about this? Isn't this common in Taiwan?" "Scenery?" But he also followed the trend and took a picture.

The waiter will come to pay the bill when it's almost here.

I also gave a small biscuit as a compliment. This KAMBLY is a century-old biscuit shop in Switzerland. It is a very representative biscuit brand and can be bought in supermarkets. I think the original flavor distributed in the car is the most delicious~

Finally arrived at Zermatt at 5pm!!! I was so touched~~so tired😆, and seeing the familiar Taiwan Railway LOGO in the station was so friendly~

The railways in Switzerland are very developed. In fact, most of them are very good and clean. Some trains also have special dining compartments, and some have sunshades. After taking the Glacier Train, I didn’t feel that it was very special, and it was really too sunny. But After all, this place is famous and the scenery is really beautiful, so it’s a good experience~ Summary: You can experience it, a window seat is a must, sunglasses are a must, water is a must, don’t take the entire ride, and don’t pre-select meals (it’s recommended to bring your own meals) point)
